If you want to meet our new buddy, let someone at the front desk know and you may be able to feed him some tasty lettuce. If it's cold outside, he may be brumating, which is like hibernation, so he will pretty much be asleep. But, once it warms up, he'll be up and about again!

A little bit about me and tortoises!

Hi everyone! I was recently adopted from the Arizona Game and Fish Tortoise Adoption center. When my new family came to pick, I knew I had to make my move. They had some lettuce to feed us, and when I saw the lettuce, I booked it as fast as a tortoise can. I let them know I was super friendly, and hungry! Tortoises love lettuce, but too much isn't good for them. They need more dry grasses and other native desert plants. But, a bit of lettuce is fine and I can tell you, Romaine is the best! I'm one of the friendliest tortoises you'll meet, but sometimes, I like to just chill in my burrow. And if it's cold outside, I'll really be sleeping. Sometimes for weeks on end! It's fine, I've been doing this for almost 50 years. Yes, I'm almost 50! I don't look a day over 40! You can find some more info on my tortoise crew HERE!

If you can, you should adopt one of my brothers or sisters from the Arizona Game & Fish Tortoise Adoption Program

Desert Tortoise Adoptions

Currently, the Arizona Game and Fish Tortoise Adoption center is almost full. Most of these tortoises have been rehoused here from other homes and the tortoises are not capable of living on their own in the wild anymore. A tortoise makes a great pet and friend and they're super easy to take care of. They may be scaly, but they're still cute!

If you are interested in making an adoption, Swiss Biologic Dentistry will cover the requested fee for you. Please just let us know that you plan on making the adoption, and we'll make sure the Tortoise Adoption center is sent their fee. If you have any questions, there are great people at the center that can answer all of your questions.

Tortoise crazy!

When we built out our garden area, we wanted to do something special with it. It was originally very underwhelming, but with a bit of care, some decorations, and some more interesting plants, we've made something really nice. But, we were missing something. Tortoises! We were always going to try and adopt one, but we had so much space, and the Arizona Department of Game and Fish Tortoise adoption center was so full, we wanted to do what we could, so we adopted one more. With the space we have, two is perfect, but no more.

So who is the new guy?!

I'm small, but mighty! I'm super friendly and love hanging out in the vines or in my burrow. When the weather is nicer, I scoot all over the place. And yes, I love lettuce. I love lettuce so much! I have lettuce mouth in my pictures because I was just eating more of it! I know I should eat more grasses, but the lettuce is just so tasty! If you want to come and say hi, I'm very friendly and will come right up to you. If I'm in my burrow, just slap some lettuce on the side and I'll pop out to say hi.

If you're wondering why there's a small fence between us, male tortoises can be territorial and aggressive toward each other, so we need our own separate areas and burrows.
